Nanded, also spelled Nander, city, eastern Maharashtra state, western India. It lies in an upland region on the banks of the Godavari River. Gurdwara Sri Gobind Bagh Sahib is 300 meters from Takht Sri Hazur Sahib. When Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji was about to leave this world the sandalwood (a widely cultivated Indian tree that yields fragrant timber and oil) for the cremation was brought from here. At that time it was known as a Chandan (sandalwood) Bagh (garden). Nanded was the birthplace of three Maratha poet-saints—Vishnupant Shesa, Raghunath Shesa, and Vaman Pandit. The city is known as the center of Sanskrit learning. A Sikh gurdwara (“temple and kitchen”) was built on the site where Guru Gobind Singh was assassinated in 1708. Takhat Sachkhand Shri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib is the main Gurudwara of Nanded and is one of the five High seats of Authority of the Sikhs. This is the place where Shri GuruGobind Singhji breathed his last.
